Deepening citizen journalism practices: An opportunity for journalists and students to contribute to a more informed and participatory society
On February 19 and 20, 2025, Luanda will host an innovative workshop, aimed at journalists and communication students, focused on the presentation and application of the “Training Manual on Citizen Journalism”. This event aims to promote a more inclusive and citizen-based journalistic practice, enabling participants to play an active role in collecting, analyzing and disseminating information, which is fundamental to strengthening civic participation and government transparency.
The workshop, organized by PASCAL, will draw on the expertise of Teixeira Cândido, a prominent Angolan journalist, and Marc Tawil, an internationally renowned communications expert and entrepreneur. Through practical activities, participants will develop essential skills to apply the concepts of citizen journalism in their daily lives, promoting a more responsible journalism that is engaged with society’s needs, and contributing to a better informed, participatory and fairer society.
This workshop is a response to a growing need to train journalists and future communication professionals in the practices and techniques of citizen journalism. Over the course of two days, participants will be introduced to a practical manual that guides the practice of citizen journalism, helping to raise the quality of information and promoting greater civic involvement in communities.
