Angolan journalists and international experts discuss the transformative role of the media in social and economic development, preparing for the Media and Citizenship Conference.
PASCAL held today, at the Tropicana Hotel, in Luanda, a workshop on Media and Citizenship, with the participation of more than 30 Angolan journalists. This event is part of the preparation for the Conference on Media and Citizenship that will take place tomorrow, August 29, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, at the Intercontinental Hotel, also in Luanda.
The workshop was attended by renowned experts Marc Tawil, Brazilian communicator and entrepreneur, and Daniel Prando Cavaretti, specialist in innovation and entrepreneurship. Both shared their experiences on the vital role of journalism in economic and social development, highlighting how the media can promote a sense of belonging and trust among citizens.
Daniel Cavaretti, in his speech, highlighted: “Journalism was vital for the economic and social development of Brazil, demonstrating how communication can unite people with the purpose of having a better country for everyone. And with Angola it is no different”
Pablo López Deán, director of the PASCAL project, highlighted the fundamental role of journalists in the project: “PASCAL aims to promote more inclusive and heterogeneous citizen participation. We consider the role of the media as a vehicle to bring information to all corners of the country and promote the rights of citizenship.”
During the workshop, Angolan journalists Leão Vital, Pedro Santa Maria and Pereira Santana interacted effusively with the speakers, analyzing how journalists have used the available tools to enhance their voices and the voice of citizens.
The event was a crucial opportunity to strengthen journalists’ capacity to use the media effectively to promote active citizenship in Angola, preparing them to contribute meaningfully at tomorrow’s conference.
