Event highlights initiatives to support civil society and community empowerment.

The municipal administrator of Viana, Demétrio Brás de Sepúlveda, highlighted the importance of the PASCAL project in strengthening local communities during the presentation of the Njila Project, held on October 10. The event, which was attended by around 120 members of the Community Advisory Council (CAC), including 21 women, is an initiative of the Njila project whose aim was to validate the portfolio of projects resulting from the Participatory Budgeting Contributions Forum.

José Tiago, Focal Point, and Apolónia Gabriel, PASCAL’s Civil Society Support Assistant in Luanda, attended the event in response to an invitation from the Municipal Administration. During the meeting, it was possible to introduce the assistant to the district administrators and maintain a connection with the necessary partners.

At the meeting, the municipal administrator praised PASCAL’s essential role in supporting civil society to interact more effectively with the public administration. He pointed out that the project has promoted the empowerment of citizens, allowing them to become directly involved in prioritizing projects focused on infrastructure, health, sanitation, energy and education. The Njila Project complements these actions, offering new opportunities for communities to feel represented and heard in municipal decisions. The partnership between PASCAL, Njila and the local authorities reinforces the importance of a joint effort for Viana’s development.
