As part of the March Women’s Day, PASCAL, a project funded by the European Union, in partnership with the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MAT), held the First National Workshop “Women Leaders in Local Governance” on Thursday, March 21, at the Talatona Convention Hotel in Luanda.
The event, whose inaugural lecture was given by Her Excellency Dr. Ana Afonso Dias Lourenço, First Lady of the Republic, featured national and foreign speakers and speakers from institutions of the United Nations system.
Under the slogan “More Inclusion, Better Results”, the meeting brought together more than 250 women from all over the country, with the aim of reflecting on the role of women in decision-making bodies in the state’s local administration and the need to strengthen policy measures that encourage greater participation by women in community development.

“By embracing this initiative, PASCAL recognizes that this workshop is a unique opportunity to share experiences, learn from international practices and build support networks that strengthen women’s leadership in local governance. Through thematic panels, debates and the sharing of experiences, we hope not only to inspire, but also to equip women leaders with the tools they need to overcome challenges and maximize their impact,” said Pablo López, director of PASCAL, during his speech.

The 1st National Workshop “Women Leaders in Local Governance” aims to reinforce the Angolan Executive’s commitment to creating policies aimed at promoting gender equality and the greater inclusion of women, especially in prominent positions, thereby raising the enshrinement of the principle of equality between men and women, enshrined in Articles 21 and 23 of the Constitution of the Republic.
Pablo López ended his speech by reiterating his wish that the deliberations and results of the meeting would be a beacon of hope and a guide to concrete action for the empowerment of women in local governance.
