Under the slogan “From Clicks to Progress: Young People’s Digital Paths to Sustainable Development”, the 9th Provincial Youth Conference brought together young people from various regions of Benguela Province today at the IMPB Auditorium in Balombo Municipality to discuss relevant issues and propose actions for sustainable development.
The conference, organized by the Provincial Youth Commission, was supported by PASCAL, a project funded by the European Union, with the aim of providing a forum for discussion where young people could address key issues for their future, as well as present concrete proposals for action.
The opening of the event was marked by the singing of the National Anthem and a minute’s silence in tribute to the young people who fought for the progress of the nation. The Provincial Governor of Benguela welcomed the participants, followed by the official opening session led by the Director of Benguela’s Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports Office, Pascoal Luís.
During the morning, the first panel dealt with the theme “Engaged youth: building a sustainable future through the Lobito Corridor”. Among the topics discussed were civic participation and the social and political engagement of youth in the province, the importance of the Lobito Corridor for the socio-economic development of the southern region of Angola, and the challenges of sustainable family farming.
The second panel, held in the afternoon, focused on the “Community health situation in Benguela province”. This panel assessed the impact of investments in community response and presented an overview of the sexual and reproductive health of young people in the province.
The conference ended with the reading of the final communiqué, the awarding of certificates and honors to the participants, and a socializing session.
This conference stood out as a crucial platform for Benguela’s young people, allowing them not only to discuss the challenges they face, but also to articulate solutions and partnerships to boost the province’s progress.
