Capacity building in local governance and participatory budgeting.

In our mission to promote a more participatory and inclusive Angola, we continue to mobilize local leaders and communities in Huambo.

This week, Maria de Lassalete, our Focal Point in the province, led a series of activities focused on training and strengthening community participation in the dynamics of local governance.

In the municipality of Bailundo, Maria de Lassalete and the local CTGOM organized a replicated training on Participatory Budgeting. The event brought together nine participants, including three women, two of whom acted as facilitators thanks to their experience gained in previous training sessions. The event covered fundamental aspects such as the objectives of Participatory Budgeting (PB), its stages and the importance of monitoring and evaluating initiatives, strengthening the role of women in leadership and empowerment spaces. Also on her journey, the Focal Point went to Chinhama Commune, about 80 km from Cachiungo, where she had a productive meeting with the Commune Administrator to learn about the initiatives underway and discuss local needs. Maria de Lassalete also attended a meeting of the Deputy Administrator of Cachiungo, reinforcing the importance of including issues related to the Social Consultation and Concertation Councils (CAC) in the dialogue with administration officials.

At the end of this series of actions, the Focal Point attended a session in the commune of Luvemba, received by the Deputy Communal Administrator and a local team. In an extraordinary CAC, with 46 participants, including 5 women, a training session focused on Open Government was held, reiterating our commitment to transparency and citizen participation in local governance spaces.

Through training on Participatory Budgeting and liaison meetings with local authorities and committees, we continue to consolidate our goals of promoting transparency and the active engagement of communities in decision-making processes.
